Mariam Yassin
Deputy Head of Primary
I am excited to be embarking on my third year at Star International School, Mirdiff, where I serve as Deputy Headteacher of Primary. This dynamic role allows me to work closely with students, teachers, and our parental community. My teaching philosophy revolves around empowering students to become critical thinkers, compassionate individuals, and lifelong learners, traits I've cultivated through my diverse educational experiences.
My educational journey has been a pursuit of growth and personal development. Having completed my initial degree, gaining a BSc in Psychology, I embarked on a PGCE in Primary Education, studying at UCL, Institute of Education. Quite early on in my teaching journey, I acquired a Master's degree in Education from the University of Hertfordshire focusing on leadership and change management.
Over the course of 11 years, I've had the privilege of working across various schools in London, holding a wide range of teaching and leadership positions. This journey has not only enriched my pedagogical skills but has also ignited my passion for curriculum design, school improvement planning, and supporting the professional development of teachers as well as aspiring middle and senior leaders. This coming academic year, I will be working closely with colleagues in the Foundation, Primary, and Secondary phases of school, sharing my expertise and continuing to enhance our Awe and Wonder curriculum offering which I am extremely excited about.
Outside of work, my interests include reading, outdoor exploration, and spending quality time with my family. Living in Dubai has re-ignited my love of travel, allowing me to explore new places and cultures.
